Capability Territory
Architecture
Architecture is the territory of what should be built - the strategy and operational structure a business needs in order to carry the direction it has chosen.
The questions this territory addresses
- What the business has to become in order to meet the direction it has decided on.
- Which parts of the business are built to last and which were built to get through last year.
How the REACH Method™ applies
The REACH Method governs Reach's consulting, and its stages may be used at different depths depending on the scope of the engagement.
- Reveal
- Understand the business as it actually is today, and the direction, opportunity, or transition being considered.
- Evaluate
- Test that direction against evidence, constraints, risk, and the capacity the business genuinely has.
- Architect
- Determine and design what should be built or changed: the strategy, systems, processes, and operational structure the direction requires.
- Construct
- Put that strategy, those systems, and that structure into practice in a sequence the business can carry.
- Hold
- Evaluate whether what was built is doing what it was designed to do, and what requires continued attention or adjustment.
A territory, not a service
Capability territories describe the kinds of business questions Reach works on, and the categories it organizes its work by - Business & Growth Architecture is this one. They are not separate services and they are not priced separately. A territory is worked through Consulting Services, and a single engagement may cross more than one territory. Corporate Training & Development and Professional Speaking may draw on the same subject matter, but the commercial relationship and purpose remain distinct.
