Capability Territory
Systems
Systems is the territory of repeatability - the processes, documentation, and tools through which the same work happens the same way twice, without being re-decided each time.
The questions this territory addresses
- Whether the business has processes it can repeat, or re-decides the same questions every time they come up.
- Whether what one person knows exists anywhere outside their memory.
- Whether the tools in use support the work or quietly add to it.
- Whether someone new could be brought into the work without the business stopping to explain itself.
- Which processes are worth documenting, which are worth changing, and which should simply be retired.
How the REACH Method™ applies
The REACH Method governs Reach's consulting, and its stages may be used at different depths depending on the scope of the engagement.
- Reveal
- Establish how the work is actually performed today - including the undocumented steps and the workarounds that have become the process.
- Evaluate
- Examine which processes carry real weight, where the risk of a single point of knowledge sits, and what the current tools are genuinely doing.
- Architect
- Design the process structure the business needs, appropriate to its size.
- Construct
- Put documented process and supporting tools into use with the people who have to run them.
- Hold
- Evaluate whether the system is being used as designed, what it has changed, and what requires continued attention or adjustment.
A territory, not a service
Capability territories describe the kinds of business questions Reach works on, and the categories it organizes its work by - Operations & Systems is this one. They are not separate services and they are not priced separately. A territory is worked through Consulting Services, and a single engagement may cross more than one territory. Corporate Training & Development and Professional Speaking may draw on the same subject matter, but the commercial relationship and purpose remain distinct.
